Things to Check When you Log into Facebook
Facebook is about connecting with people. When you’re logged in, check which of your friends or connections up to. The following are top things you need to check when logging into Facebook.
Requests – Accept or Reject friend requests. These are people asking to connect with you.
Click the Friend Request icon. A red bubble will appear if you have pending requests. Then choose to accept or reject friend requests.
Inbox - Check if you have unread messages. These are messages from friends, groups, events, businesses you’ve been part or subscribed to.
New or unread messages will be indicated by a number appearing in parenthesis.
All Notifications – This is a continuous stream of updates about your friends, groups, events and applications. Check if you have Wall post messages posted by your friends and connections. You will also be notified if your friends tagged you in a message.
Upcoming Birthdays and Events -These are lists of upcoming events, and your friends’ birthdays occurring today.
See all upcoming events. You may click “See All” to view all events.Only friends who have listed their birthdays will show.
Friends Online – These are list of friends who are online and are free to chat.
Finding People You Know On Facebook
Facebook has this popular feature to find people from your past or find new friends through your friends. Here are few easy ways to find people you may now and gain new friends.
Import friends and contacts from your email address book. – See which people in your address book or instant messenger (IM) buddy list are on Facebook, if they’re not in Facebook, invite them to join. Facebook allows you to import from a variety of popular e-mail and IM services.
Click Friends in the left column of the Homepage, click Find Friends.
Search for your classmates and coworkers. - Search your classmates or coworkers from the schools and company you’ve been linked to. To do this, click Friends, Other Tools
Choose the company or school where you were linked to find and add friends you may know.
See your friends’ friends. – There’s a good chance you may know the friends of your friends.
To view their friends go to their profiles and click the “See All” link in the Friends box in the left column of their profile.
Check out Facebook friends suggestions. Facebook will show people you might know according to your profile or mutual friends.

Always check out your friend’s news feeds. Your friends new connections will appear in your profile and will also appear in your wall.
Celebrating Your Friends’ Birthday on Facebook
Celebrating your friend’s birthday on Facebook is a fun way to show you care about them. Here are easy ways to celebrate birthdays on Facebook in fun, free and or inexpensive way.
Write your greetings on their wall. – A wall is an informal, public forum on each person’s profile. You can send your greetings here.
Go to friends profile, write in the wall and enter your message.
Tag your friends in a post. You can write on your wall and tag your friend. Both posts will appear in your profile wall and friend’s wall as well.
A friend’ name will pop out once you start typing their name. Make sure to click it and it will automatically highlighted, this way your friend will be tagged in this post.
After writing your message, click share.
Your friend will receive an alert that he was tagged in a post by you.
Poke them. A poke can be used in variety of things in Facebook. Poke your friends to say hello.

Create a Birthday Greeting Ad. You can buy an ad for one day only and target it at a network or small region. To do this, click Ads in your Profile.

Messaging – This Facebook feature is similar to an email. You can write short and sweet messages without remembering their email addresses.

Writing on Walls – You can choose to communicate with your friends in public. Congratulate or send sweet messages by posting on their walls. These are messages you and their friends might want to hear about.
Sending a Text Message – Facebook Text Message allows you to send messages to your friends through your mobile phone. Activate your Facebook mobile before starting to use this feature.
Writing in your own Profile – If you have something interesting you want to share with your friends, but you’re not sure who or how much, write it on your own Profile. Your friends may see your post in their News Feed or see it when they will visit your Facebook Profile.
Tagging a Photo – If you have photos you want to share and talk about with your friends, you might want to tag them in your photos. Those photos might be a good topic to start with. Click the Photo, then click “Tag this photo” and then start tagging names.
Common Facebook Terminology
Facebook has some unfamiliar terminologies. Get to know their terms and its definitions to get started with Facebook.
Wall – A wall is where you and your friends can read and write anything to a Profile. You can post status messages, links, and videos or ask questions and create a poll on your wall. Your friends have the options to like and comment on your post. This is a good way to communicate with your friends and friends of your friends in public.
News Feed – This is a continuous updates of stories about you, your friends, and pages or businesses you liked that appears on your Facebook Homepage. You can read important updates and news about the activities on and off Facebook.
Poke – This is a feature where in you can send your simple greeting to someone. This is a casual gesture meaning “I’m thinking of you”. Only the person you poke can see the poke alert when they log in to their profile.
Profile – This is your page. This contains your photos and videos and those you were tagged in. It also shows your activities and anything you choose to include. You may choose to show or hide some activities depending on how you set your Privacy Settings.
